Development of a Fixed-Wing Drone System for Aerial Insect Sampling

چکیده
Most current insect research techniques are ground-based and provide scarce information about flying insects in the planetary boundary layer (PBL), which remains a poorly studied ecological niche. To address this gap, we developed new insect-sampling method consisting of fixed-wing drone platform with net traps attached to fuselage, mobile design that has optimal aerodynamic characteristics for capture PBL. We tested proposed device on 16 flights Doñana National Park (Spain) two different trap designs fitted fuselage nose wing. collected 34 specimens belonging four orders representation twelve families at mean altitudes below 23 m above ground level sampling between 9 365 m. This constitutes low-cost low-impact monitoring PBL, especially combination other remote sensing technologies directly quantify aerial abundance but do not taxonomic information, opening interesting possibilities ecology entomological research, possibility transfer economically important sectors, such as agriculture health.

This document provides supplementary online material for the paper titled “Evolutionary coordination system for fixed-wing communications unmanned aerial vehicles” recently submitted to TAROS 2014. It mainly focuses on critical system components, namely the aerial vehicles kinematics model, link budget management and also addresses the issue of time synchronisation and algorithmic flow.
متن کاملFlyZone: A Testbed for Aerial Drone Applications
Aerial drones offer exciting new opportunities for mobile computing. One of the major hurdles to the development of drone applications in both industry and academia is the difficulty of experimenting in a protected setting, at reasonable cost, and in a flexible manner. To address these issues, we present FlyZone, a practical testbed design with an efficient system implementation that provides a...
متن کاملProgrammable Multispectral Imager Development as Light Weight Payload for Low Cost Fixed Wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
In this paper, we have developed a light-weight and costefficient multispectral imager payload for low cost fixed wing UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) that need no runway for takeoff and landing. The imager is band-reconfigurable, covering both visual (RGB) and near infrared (NIR) spectrum. The number of the RGB and NIR sensors is scalable, depending on the demands of specific applications. The...
